CIM-034 Provision of amenities for MPP School, Chinna Lakshmapur, Nalgonda District

About Community Impact Month (Giving back is Essential)

Lead India 2020 Foundation (www.leadindia2020.org) partnered with McGraw-Hill Financial (www.mhfi.com) the company which strongly believes in the motto, 'Giving back is essential'. It extends to giving back to the society. This year MHFI has launched Community Impact Month (CIM) in which 20+ employees would be working together and for solving public problems in their community. MHFI grants $2000 per project and employees spend their personal time on the project. This year S&P Capital IQ (part of MHFI group) (www.capitaliq.com) employees applied for projects from various areas. These employees are working tirelessly to fulfill the motto and render true meaning to 'Giving back is essential'.
Below are details of one of the CIM projects.

About Govt. ZPHS School, Peddamangalaram

  1. MPP School is located in Chinna Lakshmapur Village in Turkapally Mandal in Nalgonda district, which is approximately 65 KM from our Hyderabad Office.
  2. Approximately 68 students are studying in this school from standard I-V.

Current problems:

The village has good water resource but they are not able to use and conserve the water properly due to lack of water storage systems. There is no water connectivity from village water storage tank to the toilets. There are no doors to the toilets and the drainage system is also in bad condition. There is no water purifier in the school, resulting in an unhygienic drinking water. The school does not have sports material for the children.

Volunteer work done at the Chinna Lakshmapur

Keeping in mind these problems, S&P Capital IQ, Hyderabad Has conducted a CIM event at the village on June 30th, 2014.

  • Constructed two mini water tanks, one each for SC & BC colonies.
  • Constructed water pipelines from storage tanks to toilets in the school.
  • Renovated school toilets and drainage system.
  • Donated water purifier for school children.
  • Enamel painting of educational material done in class room.
  • Plantation done in school premises.
  • Cleaned the school premises.
  • Distributed stationary to all school children including pencils, rubber and sharpener.
  • Donated sports material to the school.
  • Conducted games and distributed prizes.
  • Conducted health and educational awareness campaign for school children.

Impact of Volunteer work

After the CIM project, the residents of SC & BC colonies are using the mini tanks for conserving and storing water. The school children are using toilets there by promoting hygiene. The school children are now drinking pure water from the water purifier, thus decreasing the probability of water related diseases. The pictorial educational material painted in class rooms has made learning easy for rural school children. Through our interactions we were able to motivate the children to come to school every day.

Feedback of the CIM Volunteers

Samuel Sudheer Yangala (Project Leader)
It gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction to serve the society through the CIM platform laid by S&P Capital IQ, Inc. I am thankful to the management for giving me this opportunity to coordinate and lead this event, especially their valuable suggestions to take up projects related to water conservation. These suggestions have motivated me to construct two mini water tanks for the economically and socially downtrodden communities. Providing basic infrastructure to the primary school is a memorable experience. Thanks to all volunteers who accompanied me in making this event a big success.
Naveen Kumar Gademsetty
I offer my sincere thanks to S&P Capital IQ, Inc. for giving me such a wonderful chance to volunteer for society through the CIM Program. I am really moved by the respect and affection shown by the villagers and school children towards the volunteers. Conducting games for school children was a memorable experience for me. Being a human being, its our minimum responsibility to do something for the society. Our help may be just small drops of rain today, but with more people coming in I am sure it will become a stream tomorrow.

Sarita Kommuru
It was a great experience to serve the society through S&P Capital IQ - Lead India 2020 CIM programme. I would like to thank S&P Capital IQ management for providing this platform to its employees to carry out social activities, which as an individual I cannot do on my own. I will never forget the happiness on the face of school children and teachers. I feel proud to help them through our company.
