About Community Impact Month (Giving back is Essential)

Lead India 2020 Foundation (www.leadindia2020.org) partnered with McGraw-Hill Financial (www.mhfi.com) the company which strongly believes in the motto, 'Giving back is essential'. It extends to giving back to the society. This year MHFI has launched Community Impact Month (CIM) in which 20+ employees would be working together and for solving public problems in their community. MHFI grants $2000 per project and employees spend their personal time on the project. This year S&P Capital IQ (part of MHFI group) (www.capitaliq.com) employees applied for projects from various areas. These employees are working tirelessly to fulfill the motto and render true meaning to 'Giving back is essential'.

Below are details of one of the CIM projects.

About Primary School, Chinchode

  1. Chinchode Village is situated at a distance of 60 KMs from Capital IQ, Hyderabad office.
  2. The school teaches 120 students from classes I to V

Current problems:

School lacks various basic facilities, including:

  • The school does not have a proper compound wall resulting in vehicles and animals entering the school premises
  • The school does not have toilets and students are forced to go out to attend nature’s calls.

Volunteer work at Primary School, Chinchode

Keeping in mind these problems, S&P Capital IQ Hyd. conducted a CIM event at Chinchode village on 16th June 2014

Volunteer works on the CIM day:

  • Helped mason in construction of compound wall and toilets.
  • Conducted games to students distributed prizes.
  • Planted saplings beside the road and nearby primary health centre.
  • Volunteers gave awareness on conserving water and environment.

Impact of CIM project at Primary School-Chinchode

Due to construction of wall and toilets students are now protected from animals and insects, as well as they need not go outside to attend nature’s call, resulting in a improvement in the security and hygience in the school environment. This will improve the attendance of the students and thereby increasing the level of literacy in the village. Parents, teachers, and students are feeling very happy, they have pledged to increase the standard of education in the school

Feedback of the beneficiaries:
Sarpanch: I am very happy with all your great work. By providing wall and gate we are feeling secured without intervention of animals. Thanks to S&P Capital IQ and its team of volunteers for conducting this activity in our village.
Principal: Our teachers and I are very satisfied with your all activities, such as helping in wall construction, conducting games, and distributing sports items and notebooks. This will become one of the most memorable days in my service. Great job by volunteers, keep it up….

Member from World Vision Organization: This is a good initiation from S&P Capital IQ. We had a great experience today. As a primary need we require fencing wall and toilets so that students will be protected. This will stop dropouts. In village many orphans are there we need your help for their education.

Feedback from CIM Volunteers

Sai Gopal Killada: I was shocked to see so many problems in the village. Sitting in office and working made me think that everything is fine after coming here realized the rural community and their problems. With our small efforts we have tried to solve some of them. I have realized and utilized this opportunity to develop leadership qualities.

Mahesh Gogula: I am happy to be a part of this CIM project. I have utilized this opportunity to know and understand problems of society and tried to help them.

Dhanesh KhakkarThis is the second time I have participated in a CIM project. It was a great experience for me to be a part of this great event. I thank my CIM leader for giving me an opportunity to conduct games to children. It was a great feeling for me, which can’t be expressed through words.
Through CIM projects we are not only trying to develop the society but also we are trying to make a positive change in each individual. This will play very important role in developing our rural communities.

Ahmed Ali Mohammad: If these kind of projects are conducted then I am sure by 2020 there will be no " CHILD LABOUR ". Till now the village students and parents are discouraged and de motivated because of poor facilities prevailing at many schools. If we continue doing these kind of projects and provide basic infrastructure at schools then most of the students will get attracted towards education. We can make them believe that Government Schools are not in any way less than corporate schools.

Kishore Kumar Reddy Nalabolu: It gave me immense pleasure to co-ordinate and lead this project. Though this is my first project as a leader, we were able to do a good job with the support of all volunteers. I am happy to see the happiness in the eyes of pupil and teachers. This event has developed my organizing and coordinating skills. I strongly believe that education is not only for those who have money but education is right of every citizen. Our project has definitely took a step in that direction.
